Vision

With 50,000+ students, the University of Minnesota is almost a city unto itself. However, the campus is just an island in the midst of two urban large, vibrant, diverse cities: Minneapolis and Saint Paul. Too often, students spend their years on campus without experiencing the realities of the city beyond the campus. Here's a great opportunity to fix that.

God loves the city because he loves people. Yet cities have unique challenges and ministry opportunities. When Israel was sent into exile by their enemies into Babylon, God told the his people to "seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the LORD on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare," (Jeremiah 29:7).

We have the opportunity to understand the needs of the city and seek the welfare of city, to serve people, and express the love of Christ with our actions and words. This will be a great opportunity for rich fellowship -- a community of believers serving on mission, with God and the gospel at the core.

Spring Break Ministry Experiences

International Student Night (Friday)
Increasingly the nations of the world are coming to America for education. We have the opportunity to build relationships and show and share the love of Christ with these dear students. We'll help engage with an English Club experience and get to know some international student friends.

Jericho Road (Saturday)
This ministry exists to meet holistic basic needs like hunger and lodging while dealing with underlying issues to bring lasting restoration through Christ. We'll be helping with a food distribution, engaging the neighborhood, and more.

Park Ave Methodist Church (Sunday)
Experience a worship service at a diverse church in South Minneapolis.

Muslim Immigrant Community (Sunday)
Learn about the immigrant experience and Islam from a Navigator staff that is seeking to build bridges to outreach to a Muslim Immigrant community in the Twin Cities. We'll get out and engage with this community.

Safari Restaurant (Sunday)
Enjoy Somali food and culture in a fun restaurant setting.

Union Gospel Mission (Monday)
Engage with a Christian ministry dedicated to serving those who are homeless, poor and addicted in our community. Union Gospel Mission is meeting physical, spiritual, emotional and educational needs in/near downtown Saint Paul.

Second Harvest (Tuesday)
Second Harvest Heartland is known for moving large amounts of food quickly. They work to reinvent hunger relief through leadership and innovation. We'll be doing work in their warehouse and packing food.

What to Pack

Bible, pen, sleeping bag/bedding, pillow, sleeping pad/air mattress (optional), toiletries, towel, work clothes (manual labor), casual clothes, water bottle, games, health insurance card (for liability form)

Lodging

Lodging will be arranged and assigned for you. We'll be staying in groups at several host homes in the Twin Cities. This is to give you a flavor of different areas of the city, and to keep costs to a minimum and enjoyment to a maximum.
