Vision

The University of Minnesota is almost a city unto itself. However, the campus is just an island in the midst of a large, vibrant, diverse city: Minneapolis! Too often, students spend their years on campus without exposing themselves to the realities of the city around us. Here's a great opportunity to fix that.

God loves the city because he loves people. When Israel was sent into exile by their enemies into Babylon, God told the his people to "seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the LORD on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare," (Jeremiah 29:7).

We have the opportunity to seek the welfare of Minneapolis, to learn about the city, to serve people, expressing the love of Christ with our actions and words. This will be a great opportunity for true fellowship -- a community of believers serving on mission, with God and the gospel at the core.
("God of this City" by Chris Tomlin is the perfect theme song!)

Spring Break Ministry Experiences

Jericho Road (Saturday)
This ministry exists to meet holistic basic needs like hunger and lodging while dealing with underlying issues to bring lasting restoration through Christ. We'll be helping with a food distribution, among other tasks.

Park Ave Methodist Church (Sunday)
Experience a diverse worship service at a church in south Minneapolis.

Somali Refugee/Outreach Session (Sunday)
Watch a video of the Somalian refugee experience and interact with a Navigator staff that is seeking to build bridges to outreach to the Somali community.

Midtown Global Market (Sunday)
Choose a savory and unique lunch from one of over a dozen restaurants and vendors that serve food from around the globe.

Urban Ventures (Monday)
Learn about and serve at an organization that is helping end generational poverty in South Minneapolis by providing faith-based, family stabilizing programs for children. We'll be helping with after-school programs for kids.

Second Harvest (Tuesday)
Second Harvest Heartland is known for moving large amounts of food quickly. They work to reinvent hunger relief through leadership and innovation. We'll be working in their warehouse.

Feed My Starving Children (Tuesday)
Feed My Starving Children is a ministry committed to providing meals for malnourished children across the globe. We'll be assembling meals for shipment overseas.

What to Pack

Bible, pen, sleeping bag/bedding, pillow, sleeping pad/air mattress (optional), toiletries, towel, work clothes (manual labor), casual clothes, crazy pajamas, camera, water bottle, games, health insurance card (for liability form)

Lodging

We're staying all together at Bethany Baptist Church on Friday night. Then, we'll be staying in groups at several homes in the Twin Cities. This is to keep costs to a minimum and enjoyment to a maximum.
